The Dunston Pillar, Beacon Project, Lincolnshire 2001

Neon and Sound installation.

The Beacon project was an annual event featuring temporary art set in rural locations. Dan was invited to participate in 2004 and recreated the role of the Dunston Pillar land lighthouse, a beacon to guide travellers. The works were visited by specially organised coach trips over a period of a month. The neon was programmed to a never repeating pattern and was visible from great distances, the sound installation was of a riotous Saturday evening in Nottingham’s streets and pubs, recreating the atmosphere of the parties held by the towers provider, Sir Francis Dashwood, notorious for this participation in the Hell Fire Club, sometimes at the pillar itself.
