FIRE AND IRON

Woodmere Country Park, Chesterfield 2002

3.5 x 3 x 3 m. Silver granite and cast Iron. Chesterfield Borough Council and Miller Homes.

Archer was commissioned by Chesterfield Borough Council to make this work for the re-development of Woodmere Country Park. The work combines two recurring themes in Archer’s work, the doorway/Portal form representing transition, and two crucibles in cast iron, representing transformation (such as the transformation from base material to art in the crucible and moulds of a bronze art foundry.) The use of iron also refers to the former industrial heritage of the site.
