SYMP19 ETTENHEIM SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM

In 2019 Dan participated in the International Sculpture Symposium in Ettenheim in the Black Forest in Germany. Working in local granite, and cast iron, the artwork was one of a series of ship or vessel sculptures that Dan has been developing. The work referenced the nearby Rhine river and the migration of early humans along the river. The symposium was based at the studio of Anno Sieberts in Ettenheim and Dan also worked in a local cast iron foundry.

The other participants were Erika Inger (IT), Matthaus Thoma (G), Matilde Grau (SP), Wolfgang Wohlfahrt (AT). The completed works are exhibited in the Printzengarten in the center of Ettenheim. See a short video about Dan’s preparations for the symposium. and a further video of him working on the sculpture, both filmed by Garry Slater.

With many thanks to Anno and Eri Sieberts, Heinrich Verhoeven, Garry Slater and the Town Council and people of Ettenheim.
