Novartis, Grimsby, Lincolnshire 2005

8 x 3 x 3 m. Black, Silver and Grey granites

In 2005 Dan Archer was selected by Public Arts Wakefield (now BEAM) to produce a work for the new factory at Novartis Pharmaceuticals near the north Lincolnshire coast. The obelisk is a recurrent theme in Archer’s work; tall obelisks and towers, a fascination with humanities urge towards the sky, and signifiers of important sites. The fragmented ring grounds the sculpture in and includes images and text relating to alchemy and science developed in conjunction with scientists and workers at Novartis.
